HOST – LEAH JOSEPH
wehewew Leigh Joseph

Since she was a child, Leigh Joseph (Squamish Nation), has been fascinated by the natural world and always felt at home in the wilderness.  Leigh credits this love of nature to her elders who told her stories of their land and people. They took her out onto the land around Squamish and taught her to learn by observing and listening. This encouraged her to want to learn more about traditional plant foods and medicines that led her to pursue an undergraduate degree in biology and environmental studies at the University of Victoria. In 20012, Leigh earned a Masters of Science Degree from UVIC.  2002 Leigh Joseph ki kespinatamasew Masters of Science Degree ayi ohci UVIC. She uses her foundation in science, along with her cultural and spiritual views on ethnobotany, which allow her to look for ways to bridge traditional ecological knowledge and wisdom with western science.  Leigh is the ethnobotany specialist on Down2Earth Season 2.
